Plant Physiology and Metabolism

BOT-DSM-511 · BSc 5th Semester · UGC NEP · Theory · 60 hours · Personal study site, English medium

This site teaches the whole syllabus, not just the class notes. Your 46-page handwritten notes were strong on growth regulators, membrane transport and photophosphorylation — but Unit 2, Unit 4, respiration, photoperiodism, phytochrome, vernalization, water potential and essential elements were missing or only partly covered. Those gaps are taught here from scratch.

Diagram for every concept: all 57 topic sections now have at least one figure (57/57), and 39 of those sections are illustrated with a real sourced image: the site now holds 53 openly licensed Wikimedia Commons images in its assets folder, with hand-coded SVG diagrams and flowcharts retained only where no suitable open image was found. Every mechanism is shown as a visual sequence, not text alone.

Study roadmap — in PYQ-priority order

The Dec 2025 paper (60 marks, 3 hours) was mechanism-heavy in Section C: transpiration pull, nitrogen fixation, pressure flow, Z-scheme and oxidative phosphorylation. Work in this order if time is short:

  1. Mechanisms first: pressure flow (Unit 2), Z-scheme and oxidative phosphorylation (Unit 3), nitrogen fixation (Unit 4), transpiration pull (Unit 1).
  2. Definitions and components next: water potential, phloem sap, enzyme catalysis, Pr/Pfr (Section B topics).
  3. Comparisons: C3/C4/CAM, active vs passive transport, SDP/LDP/day-neutral, inhibition types.
  4. Then practise: the MCQ quiz, the Dec 2025 paper, and one model paper under timed conditions.
